Medical Directors
HospiceMidland's Medical Directors provide medical oversight to the patient care team. They assist with pain management and symptom control and work closely with the patients' primary physicians. They are also available to assume the role of primary care physician when a patient does not have one of their own.
HospiceMidlands Medical Directors are among the finest in the community:
- Gregory Bartha, M.D.
Dr. Gregory Bartha currently serves as Medical Director for HospiceMidland. Dr. Bartha was in private practice of general internal medicine in Midland from 1977 to October 2001. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine (1976) and earned Advanced Achievement in Internal Medicine, in 1987. After receiving a B.S. Degree in Chemistry in 1967 from Stanford University, Dr. Bartha attended Medical school at Yale University, graduating in 1971.
Dr. Barthas Public Health Service includes General Medical Officer at USPHS Indian Hospital in Sacaton, Arizona from 1972-1974. He then opened a private practice in Midland, Texas. Dr. Bartha served as President of Medical Staff at Midland Memorial Hospital1985; Chief Section of Internal Medicine 1983; Member of Board of Trustees 1990-1994; and Member Board of Governors 1998 to present.
An avid teacher, Dr Gregory Bartha served as Medical Director of Midland College Respiratory Therapy Program 1986-present; Preceptor for physician assistant students 1982, 1983, 1984, 1988, 2000, 2001; Preceptor for third year medical students 1985; Preceptor for first year medical students 1997 and 1998; Preceptor for geriatric nurse practitioner 1989 and 2001; Attending physician for Texas Tech Internal Medicine Residency Program 1993, 1995, 1996.
Dr. Bartha is a member of the American College of Physicians, American Chemical Society, Texas Medical Association, and Midland County Medical Society.
Dr. Barthas interests include research and community service. In 2003, Dr. Gregory Bartha was the recipient of the Golden Deeds award for his many contributions to the Midland Community.
- James Corwin, M.D.
Dr. James Corwin has served as a Medical Director for HospiceMidland since 1983. Dr. Corwin is a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology and is a Radiation Oncologist specialist with Allison Cancer Center in Midland. After receiving a masters degree in anatomy at Bostons Tufts University in 1970, Dr. Corwin went on to earn his medical degree at the same institution in 1972. A surgery internship and residency in radiology followed at Wilford Hall, U. S. Air Force Medical Center in San Antonio. From 1976 through 1978, he attended a fellowship training program in radiotherapy at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center.
Dr. Corwin is a clinical associate professor for the Texas Tech University Health Science Center at San Antonio, a member of the Cancer Therapy and Research Center advisory board and a lecturer in radiobiology. From 1983 through 1987 he was a consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General in radiotherapy.
Dr. James Corwin is a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He retired as a colonel in the U.S. Air Force. His memberships include:American College of Radiology, Radiological Society of North America, American society of Therapeutic Radiologists, American Medical Association, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American college of Radiation Oncology and Southern Association for Oncology.
Dr. Corwin and his wife, Georgia have two daughters, Katherine and Emily. His interests include biking, swimming and yard work.
- Richard Reese, M.D.
Dr. Richard Reese has been associated with Hospice of Midland as a Medical Director since 1983 and has served as a Medical Director. Dr. Reese is a Diplomate of American Board of Internal Medicine. He is currently in private practice in Midland, Texas. Dr. Reese received his education from the University of Texas at Austin (1971-1975); University of Texas at Southwestern (1975-1979); and Presbyterian Hospital at Dallas (1979-1982).
The achievements of Dr. Reese include Diplomate National Board of Medical Examiners, 1983; Diplomate American Board of Internal Medicine Geriatrics, 1990-2000; President of Midland-Odessa Medical Group, 1996-present; Medical Director, Skilled Nursing Unit at Midland Memorial Hospital, 1990-present; Board of Trustees for Midland Memorial Hospital, 1986-1995; Associate Professor Internal Medicine at Texas Tech; and Medical Director for Hospice of Midland, 1983-present.
Dr. Richard Reese is a member of the American College of Physicians; American society of Internal Medicine; Texas Medical Association; and Midland County Medical Society.
Dr. Reese and his wife, Debbie have two children, Sally and Harrison. His interests include traveling the Big Bend area, an appreciation for landscaping and native foliage, race cars, and family.
