  • In agreement that hospice care is appropriate; and

Insurance Information

Private Insurance Coverage:

Hospice insurance coverage is widely available. It is provided by Medicare nationwide, by Medicaid in Texas, and by most private health insurance policies. To be sure of coverage, families should of course check with their employer or health insurance provider. However, HospiceMidland is a not-for-profit agency and provides its services regardless of ability to pay.

Eligibility for Medicare hospice benefits:

Hospice care is covered under Medicare Part A.

Patients are eligible for Medicare hospice benefits when all of the following apply:

  1. They have Medicare Part A coverage;
  2. Their doctor and the hospice medical director certify that if the disease takes its normal course, the patient probably has less than six months to live;
  3. They sign a statement choosing hospice care instead of routine Medicare covered benefits for their terminal illness; and
  4. They receive care from a Medicare-approved hospice program.
